Interposing piece or blocking piece (合い駒 or 合駒 aigoma) a piece that is put (dropped or moved) between attacking piece and the piece that is being attacked, e.g. to block a check on the king. A piece can only interpose line moves, thus moves by the lance, rook, bishop, dragon king and dragon horse can be interposed.
